The house

Welcome to Bazaruto Archipelago Lodge

The lodge has fourteen timber and thatch bungalows, spaced far enough apart that you never hear a neighbour, each with a mosquito net over the bed, a ceiling fan, a shower heated by the sun and a veranda facing the channel. The beach starts twenty paces past the last step. Boats leave at seven for the archipelago, stopping to snorkel the shallow reefs and for a grilled fish lunch on Magaruque Island. From June to October humpback whales pass close enough to watch from the veranda without taking a boat at all. The kitchen works with whatever the fishermen bring in that morning: bay prawns, squid, crab and the catch of the day, always with coconut rice and tomato salad from the plot next door. Power comes from solar panels with a generator behind them, and the water is from the lodge borehole, filtered.

The table

Channel Table

One kitchen and six long tables under thatch, facing the channel. There is no fixed dinner menu: what the fishermen brought in is what is served, announced late in the afternoon. Anyone with a dietary restriction says so in the morning and the kitchen works around it.

What to know before you arrive

Cancellation policy
Free cancellation up to forty eight hours before arrival. After that the first night is charged. A no show is charged the full first night.
Children policy
Children under two stay free in a cot the house provides. Between three and eleven they pay half when sharing the adults room.
Pets policy
Pets up to fifteen kilos are welcome when mentioned in the booking. They do not come into the restaurant or the pool.
Smoking policy
No smoking in the rooms or indoors. There is a smoking area on the terrace.
Parking
Street parking, unattended. We recommend leaving nothing in sight.
Accessibility
Access is over a sand path and there are steps, which limits wheelchair use. Speak to us before booking.
