Welcome to Clear Water Coast Reserve

The reserve covers twelve kilometres of coast north of Pemba and protects one of the coral reefs closest to shore anywhere on the eastern African coast: you walk into the water from the beach and within ten metres you are over living coral. Visits are always led by guides from the Wimbe community, trained by the reserve, and limited to twelve people per departure so nobody stands on the coral. There are three routes: the reef, done with mask and snorkel over two hours; the mangrove, by canoe through the estuary, watching birds at first light; and the dune forest, on foot, stopping at a viewpoint over the bay. Visibility is best from April to November. Entry includes a contribution to the conservation fund, which pays the guides and the watch against trawl netting.

What to know before you arrive

Cancellation policy
Free cancellation up to twenty four hours before the visit. If the sea or the weather stops the departure, the visit is rebooked or refunded in full.
Children policy
Children under two stay free in a cot the house provides. Between three and eleven they pay half when sharing the adults room.
Pets policy
Pets are not accepted, with the exception of assistance dogs.
Smoking policy
No smoking in the rooms or indoors. There is a smoking area on the terrace.
Parking
Enclosed parking on site, at no cost, with a night guard.
Accessibility
Ramped entrance, a lift and one adapted bathroom on the entrance floor. Mention it in the booking so we hold the accessible room.
